What is a SWIFT code?
An 8 or 11 character code (also called a BIC) that identifies a bank in an international payment. The first four letters are the bank, the next two the country (ZA for South Africa).
What does someone abroad need to pay into my South African account?
Your bank’s SWIFT code, your full name as the bank has it, your account number and the bank’s name. Your bank may also ask for a reference or the reason for the payment.
Is the SWIFT code the same as the branch code?
No. The branch code is for payments inside South Africa; the SWIFT code is for payments from another country.
