Where our data comes from

Postal codes come from the South African Post Office's own domestic postal code list: 15 362 suburbs in 1 081towns, each with its street code and PO Box code. Post office branch status comes from SAPO's branch list of April 2026. SAPO does not give provinces, so we work them out from GeoNames place data and check them against neighbouring postal codes.

Dialling codes come from ICASA's Numbering Plan Regulations and Telkom's published list of towns and codes. Bank codes, USSD codes and driving licence codescome from each bank's, network's or department's own website.

How every code is checked

For every bank, network and licence fact we keep the page it came from and the exact sentence on that page. A script then re-opens every one of those pages and publishes a code only if the sentence, with the code in it, is still there. Anything that fails is left off the site rather than guessed. The last full check was on 30 September 2026.

A note on bank details

Branch and SWIFT codes are for reference. Before sending money, confirm the details with your bank or the person you are paying. CodeZA is not affiliated with any bank, network, the South African Post Office or any government department.
